INTERIOR DESIGN, HOME DECORATION & DECORATIVE OBJECTS

The interior architecture profession, which used to be described as a sub-branch of architecture before, became more common and well-established after World War II. Starting from the early 1950s, in parallel with the increase in spending on homes and private living spaces, a number of interior design courses were opened, which also required the publication of textbooks and reference resources. On the one hand, the historical records of various sources from experts of decorative arts to interior architects and companies were presented for the knowledge and benefit of the public while on the other hand, many pioneering institutions were established to set and manage the training, qualifications, standards, practices, etc. for this important profession: Such as the Finnish Association of Interior Architects (Sisustusarkkitehdit SIO) that was founded in 1949, the National Society of Interior Designers (NSID) in the USA in 1957, the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI) in Denmark in 1963, the Interior Decorators and Designers Association (IDDA) in the UK in 1965, and many more to follow them until the present day.
