CHAIRS

It is known that chairs carved from wood, covered with fabric or leather, and featuring lower backs than in the ones we own today, were used in many ceremonies in the early Egyptian Empire in 3000s BC. After taking on a more magnificent appearance in the later periods of Ancient Egypt, chairs became the symbols of wealth and social status. In Europe, thanks to the Renaissance, chairs were rescued from being a privilege for any monarchy, and they became the common pieces of furniture for anyone who could afford to buy them. When that segregationist and faulty way of thinking which could be considered as a kind of class distinction evanesced, chairs quickly entered the general use of society. And from that moment, they began to show an incredibly rapid change and development to reflect the fashion of the day. For instance, from the 1840s, rocking chairs began to be widely used on both sides of the Atlantic. Plus, metal chairs have been sold in England since the 1830s, too.
