FRENCH BENCHES
Benches gained their initial popularity as fitted seats for alcoves, summerhouses, and arbors. But starting from the 16th century when chairs became to be used more widely, benches lost their vogue as free-standing pieces of furniture. Some of the most spectacular benches were manufactured in the Spanish colonies in South America during the 17th century, notably, in Cuzco, Peru where benches used to bear carved, flamboyant, painted, or gilded crestings and balustrade backs. Additionally, upholstered versions of them were made there as well.
You can use our French benches, which are generally preferred for bedrooms, in your dining or living rooms according to your personal taste and preference. Handcrafted by using soft sponge filling and without backrests, our gold or silver gilded benches are also available in a bigger and wider variety called marquise.
